Urban Homestead Inc.
The Urban Homestead project sprouted in 1985 and is located in the middle of Pasadena, California. It is a successful, real-life working model for sustainable agriculture and living in an urban area. From this bountiful one-tenth of an acre city lot, the Dervaes Family grows and sells seasonal vegetables, herbs, fruits and edible flowers thru their Farm Box Program. Online since 2001, the Dervaes Family pioneered the modern homesteading movement, inspiring millions worldwide to take small steps towards a more sustainable life no matter where they lived.Today, the Urban Homestead is growing forward by transforming homes into homesteads through its education and outreach programs. Our mission is to “re envision a new (yet old) lifestyle with the home as building block central to all aspects of life—work and leisure, food and energy.”Through its outreach efforts, the Urban Homestead hopes to sow hope and restore the relationships of families and community to achieve wellness, wholeness and worthiness.Urban Homestead IncSelf-sufficiency in the city since 1985Founder, Jules Dervaes Jr (1947-2016)631 Cypress AvePasadena, CA 91103Ph+Text 626.765.5704Email: info@urbanhomestead.orgWeb: www.urbanhomestead.orgCalendar: www.urbanhomestead.org/eventsYouTube: www.youtube.com/urbanhomestead Facebook: www.facebook.com/urbanhomesteadGoogle+: www.google.com/+urbanhomesteadTwitter: www.twitter.com/urbanhomesteadInstagram: www.instagram.com/theurbanhomestead
